My first grocery shop of '09

Inspired by Gayle at the grocery cart challenge. I decided to stretch myself this year to save even more especially in the area of food. We eat far too many convenience foods and I need to get back to the basics. Shopping that way is much cheaper anyway. Now if I can just convince the husband.-He likes his snacks and meat meals.

2 Green Peppers 1.26
Cheddar cheese 4.99
facial tissues .99
bowtie pasta 1.00
3 rice a roni 3.00
pepperoni 1.99
french bread .99
one dozen eggs 1.49
tomato soup .67
3 mac and cheese 1.50
4 lbs. ground hamburger 6.92
deli turkey lunch meat 4.03
sliced bread 1.67
Cherrios 1.77
2 packages bacon 3.96
gallon of milk 2.50
10 lbs. potatoes 4.49
1.33 lbs. bananas .78
pineapple jello .99
nutty bars 1.59 (shopping hungry)

Total $46.64

This is not a typical week for us. I didn't need much this week because I am stocked up on a lot of things. As the weeks and months go by my totals will increase as I run out of things. I estimate that I have about 8 or 9 months worth of laundry supplies. My goal for 2009 is to stay within the 85.00 a week budget I set for myself. This is quite a change from the days of going to the grocery store without a budget or a list! I am sure I easily spent 700-800 dollars a month on food.

Wish me luck
